St Pancras, the magnificent terminus of the Midland Railway, opened in 1876.
The arch of the glass-and-iron train shed spans 240 feet and is over 100 feet high at its apex. This superb construction was an outstanding feat of Victorian engineering. when it was completed the roof was the largest in the world. The complex housed the old Midland Grand Hotel, which in its heyday was one of the most opulent in London.
In 2007 it will become the terminus of the high-speed Channel Tunnel Rail Link to Paris and the hotel will be refurbished. In the mean time walking tours of the building are still running. It is located next to Kings Cross station. Approx 2 minutes walk from Ashlee House.The British Library
