Introduction

One of the secrets to seeing all of London’s sights is to find good accommodations. By staying in a great and reasonably priced lodging such as Ashlee House, touring London won’t be a problem. Since you are housed in the center of London, it is both convenient and budget-friendly to visit places such as the Wembley Arena.

History

The Wembley Arena, originally known as the Empire Pool, is renowned worldwide for being a live entertainment venue. The arena is located in Wembley, London, just opposite the Wembley Stadium. It was built for the 1934 Empire Games, and originally housed a swimming pool. The pool was used for the 1948 Summer Olympics, making the area more popular to tourists.

For the past 70 years, Wembley Arena has played host to diverse artists such as AC/DC, ABBA, The Beatles, Queen, Oasis, Duran Duran, Coldplay, among many others. It has been a constant venue for big live comedy performances in London. In 1993, Wembley served as the venue for a comedy night with David Baddiel appearing with Rob Newman. Such appearance at Wembley Arena was responsible for bringing alternative comedy into the mainstream.

The Wembley Arena is also famous for indoor sporting events such as boxing and ice hockey. Since these events are very popular, with the streets congested with the thousands of fans who want to cheer on their respective teams, being accommodated in a place near the Wembley Arena, such as Ashlee House, is an excellent choice.

Wembley Arena is currently being renovated, together with the Wembley Stadium, as part of the development efforts of Wembley Area. The Arena is set to reopen in April 2006. The artists scheduled to play on the night of the big launch include Depeche Mode, Cliff Richard, Il Divo, Girls Aloud, and Santana. Even if the Arena is being developed, many tourists still include Wembley as part of their destination tour.
